Lichess bots for practice
Three local opponents. Pick a strength and a color. The game stays on this device.
Pawn Pusher
One-move search. It hangs pieces and walks into simple mates.
File Rank
Two-move search. It holds an opening for a few moves, then calculates.
Center Storm
Three-move search plus captures. Still a practice partner, not a titled bot.
What these bots are
Lichess hosts bot accounts you can challenge on their server, including engines that play rated or casual games under their rules. The three names on this page are not those accounts. They are search depths in your browser.
Easy picks among moves that look similar after one ply, so it blunders. Medium and hard search further and still use a short opening book, so the first moves are not identical every game. None of them is Stockfish, and none of them has a Lichess rating.
Use them to try a line, a clock, or a new opening. When you want a human, or an official bot, that game belongs on lichess.org.
Fair games against people
A local bot is practice. Using an engine while you play a person on Lichess or Chess.com is cheating on that site. The fair play notes cover reports and bans. This page does not connect an engine to a live rated game.
Questions
Can I change strength during a game?
Yes. The bot menu on the board applies to the computer's next move. Starting from this page sets the strength before the first move.
Do bots learn my games?
No. There is no saved profile and no upload. Each game starts from the current position and the depth you picked.
