Lichess app and mobile play

The official Lichess apps are published by that project. This board is a website that also works on a phone.

Official apps

Lichess ships mobile apps for phones, and the website itself works in a mobile browser. Those downloads are listed from lichess.org. Install them from the store page the project links, not from a random file that uses the name.

A search for "lichess app", "lichess mobile app", or "lichess chess download" is usually someone looking for that official install. Kingside does not publish an iOS or Android binary. There is no store rating to quote because there is no store listing.

Official site: lichess.org.

Add this board to a home screen

On iPhone, open this site in Safari, use the share sheet, and choose Add to Home Screen. On Android, open the browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. The icon is the green king. The shortcut opens the play page.

The installed shortcut is still this website. It includes play, puzzles, analysis, and the editor. It does not sync a Lichess account, and it does not download a rated game.

Phone layout stacks the board above the controls. Drag and tap both move a piece. Promotion asks for a queen, rook, bishop, or knight. Sounds can be muted from the header.

Questions

Is there a Kingside app in the App Store?

No. Use the website, or add it to your home screen. The Lichess app is a different product from the Lichess project.

Will the home screen icon play offline?

A game already loaded can keep going if the scripts are cached, but this site does not promise a full offline install. Official Lichess apps handle their own offline behavior.
